What it is

Gita Jayanti falls on Margashirsha Shukla Ekadashi (Mokshada Ekadashi). It remembers the day Krishna spoke the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra.

Traditional significance

The Gita’s teaching of steady, selfless action, devotion and self-knowledge has guided people for centuries. Many read or recite the Gita today.

History and culture

Celebrations are especially large at Kurukshetra in Haryana, with readings, discourses and lamps on the Brahma Sarovar.

A suggested practice

Act without clinging · about 5 minutes

  1. Choose one task you are anxious about.
  2. Do your best on it today.
  3. Then consciously let go of the result, as an offering.

Affirmation

I do my best and release the rest.

Reflection question

Which result am I holding too tightly?
